Client Spotlight: Jess Cooley, Unstuck Your Story

Client Spotlight: Jess Cooley, Unstuck Your Story

Each month, I’m going to celebrate one of my brilliant and talented clients here on my blog.  Check out who they are, how they work, and the gifts they offer their clients.

1. Tell us about what you do.

Through Narrative Practice, I work with individuals who are stuck in stories or particular beliefs that cause pain, hold them back or sabotage their life or relationships in some way. Narrative coaching is based on the idea that the stories we tell about ourselves, others and about our problems are what keep us stuck in problematic realities.

My coaching work is designed to help people identify the stories that are limiting them, so they can transform their relationship to themselves, others, and their problems.

Our first step is to deconstruct problematic stories. We identify the strategies Unstuck Your Storythat problem stories use to keep us stuck, highlight the ways they can trigger us and alter our perception of things, and recognize that these stories are not necessarily our own creations but rather are inherited from the larger familial, cultural or social contexts in which we live.

After we map out the effects of a particular problem story and get clear about how it has come to dominate your life in some way, we can open up space to explore and re-claim the abilities, skills, strengths and lived experiences that you already have to draw on, which may have been forgotten or underemphasized, so that you can begin to re-author stories that better fit with who and how you want to be.

Through this re-authoring process, you learn how to re-connect with your most important dreams, values and intentions, which will help you to embody a new story that inspires you, offers you more possibility in life, and expresses the “you” you most want to be.

3. What do you love about it?

I love supporting people in the process of creating positive change in their lives. Specifically, I love working with people to create new pathways forward in their life or relationship, and I love holding space for others so they can explore their personal struggles with honesty and curiosity.

I am inspired by new ideas and the process of creating new interpretations or meanings to problems, which then help people to arrive at new understandings of themselves.

4. How long have you been in my coaching program and what have you gotten out of it?

I first attended Diane’s Get Clear workshop in August 2015. Because it was so helpful, clarifying, and practical, I jumped at the opportunity to join her coaching group a few months later. At the time, I was unclear about what exactly my business was, but after 6 months of working with Diane I’ve been able to build my website, create great content, get clear on who I’m serving, and tend to all of the details that easily get lost or overlooked when starting a business.

Having Diane and the support of the other members of the coaching group has also helped me to not feel like I’m doing all of this by myself. And not only do I get access to Diane’s brilliant mind, but I’m also getting the wisdom and feedback of everyone else who participates in our regular group sessions, as well as our monthly “Get It Done Days”. Simply put, Diane’s program has been invaluable!

5. What’s one thing you’d tell others about the group coaching program, my work, the Get It Done days or any other element of our work together?

I think one of the most important things I have received from working with Diane is the permission to build my business my own way. Diane is wonderful at continually reminding us that we don’t have to do anything we don’t want to do, and that we’ll actually be most successful in our business by staying true to ourselves.

This has liberated me from a lot of BS, freeing my work from all the repetitive formulas and marketing gimmicks that many other business coaches spout. What I’ve been able to create with Diane’s help feels like a genuine extension of my best self.

6. Where do you hope to grow your biz in the next year?

Over the course of the next year, I hope to host some UnStuck Your Story webinars and in-person workshops, as well as offer retreats for people who are looking to Unstuck their Problematic Business Stories.

7. What upcoming events or specials do you have that you’d like to let people know about?

Since we just launched our business, we are offering a Friend & Family Sale of 50% off your first session or 50% off one of my One-on-One UnStuck Your Story Coaching Programs (Coupon Code: FNF50%) After purchasing a session or program at the sale price, you will have 3 months to redeem it.
